What’s happening on the Big Island? Big Island Event Aug 18-19

Waipio Camp Out (Hamakua)

Saturday, August 18 – August 19th

Please join us in Waipio for Slow Food Hawaii’s favorite Big Island event!  We will all gather in the valley at the Mock Chew’s beautiful property and set up camp. Our Slow Food Chefs are planning an amazing Slow meal including roast pig, of course. We will introduce our Terra Madre delegates and hear from Kulia Kauhi Tolentino. Kulia has family ties to the valley and has made it her life’s work to restore old lo’i (taro patches) with the help of her students. She has an inspiring story and we are blessed that she will be joining us to share her knowledge.

This is a chance to unplug for a couple of days, get quiet and relaxed, and experience the special power and rich history of Waipio. We encourage you to bring ukelele or guitar for kanikapila and stuff for breakfast on Sunday where we spend a lazy morning cooking and eating together.   Visit main website for more details.
